DUBAI WORLD CUP 2003  Sheikh Maktoum built a racing paradise in Dubai in compliance with Muslim principles of no gambling, in the UAE that is. Punters come to watch international racing at Sheikh's racecourse as his guest, for free.

CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE ENGLAND  Cheltenham holds racing festivals several times a year. Racegoers travel from all over Europe to participate in the Festival as horse owners and racing public. A part of the event, at times, is support of the UK's controversial hunt.

HYDE PARK WORKING HORSE PAGEANT  Dennis Swann had a dream. He wanted to bring working horses back to Hyde Park to show today's youth work was once driven by horse power. Dennis' dream came true soon before he retired. A Swann song, so to speak.

NEWMARKET ENGLAND  Newmarket is a horse village surrounded by studs, gallops, Newmarket and Rowley Mile Racecourses and equine auction house Tattersalls. Tradtition is important. On race days, the town virtually closes down to permit people to go racing.

OPENING OF NAAS FARRIER SCHOOL  Ireland determined there was a need for trained farriers to replace the diminishing breed of artisans. They opened the first farriers school in the racing world, a model for others.

SOUTHERN IRELAND HORSERACING  The Irish Circuit includes the Curragh, Fairyhouse, Leopardstown, Naas and more. A couple of days here, a couple of days there both during the flat and hunt seasons. Equine sales are held at Goffs Auction house.

VIRGINIA GOLD CUP  The Virginia Gold Cup finds its traditions back in the United Kingdom's Aintree. Aintree has fields of 30 horses. The VA Gold Cup has fields of 7. Or so.

A JOCKEY's TALE Kevin Mangold  He came to racing later than most jockeys. Starting as a bug boy, an apprentice, was not a deterent to him. Willing to do anything to ride, in time he lost his smile. And a friend he has yet to repay their leg up to aid him back into the saddle of life...

GOODWOOD RACECOURSE Every Day People and Others  Goodwood racegoers are different from those attending races at other tracks. More outdoorsy but still yet posh, more down to earth, elegant but yet British in their way of finding fun.

GOODWOOD RACECOURSE Grounds  Goodwood Racecourse is known better as the wedding cake on the hill. Something about the puffs and dollops of white tent tops decorating the grounds. To some racegoers, this is the vacation they plan for.

HONG KONG RACING  There are two racecourses in Hong Kong, Happy Valley and Shah Tin racecourse. Gambling is a multi million dollar industry. That being said, it is common to see in the general enclosures, local punters trying for that big win.

HORSE In General  There are some photos of horse that fit no category but at the same time fit all categories. Trailing the scent of horse, here is a potpourri of memories of man's best friend losing grace to technology....

HYDE PARK HORSES  One quickly enough discovers while jogging along Rotten Row in Hyde Park that four legs do go faster and farther than two. At odd hours, horses appear from the nearby Mews or Househld Cavalry Barracks to the delight of tourists and locals alike.

LONGCHAMPS RACECOURSE  The Arc D'Triomphe is held in Longchamps France. The course is outside of the city. Enroute to and from the course, people are able to gaze at the city's wonders.

LONGCHAMPS RACECOURSE Grounds  Longchamps grounds are smallish but historic reflecting the culture of the city. There are few statues. Like most equine sites, statues are of their greats to be remembered and beloved.

LONGCHAMPS RACECOURSE Pomp Circumstance and Fashion  French fashion reflects France. Racing visitors from the UK, Ireland, Dubai and America stand out in a crowd of French. And they let you know that in no uncertain terms.

RACEHORSE REHABILITATION CERF  An offshoot industry to horseracing today is the business of recycling racehorses from the track into other equine sports. Horses are a 30 year committment. Grace Belcore, the grandmother of rehabbed racers is one of the few who knew that when she began.

RACEHORSE REHABILITATION United Pegasus  United Pegasus began with the intent of rehabbing racers. Bending to industry pressure, their focus was shifted to rescuing Premarin babies, foals bred to produce Premarin used by pharmeceutical industry use in estrogen.

SANDOWN RACECOURSE  Sandown, a hunt and flat course, was a favorite of the Queen Mother's. A head sculpted in her honor stands both there and at Cheltenham. When the Queen visits, her Rolls Royce pulls right up close to the Winner's Enclosure.

SANTA ANITA Backstretch  Santa Anita conducts tram tours of its backstretch providing visitors with an eye on the world of racing, behind the scenes.

SANTA ANITA Historic Grounds  Santa Anita is the only racecourse in America with a historic race that did not run consecutively. A blemish on racing history remains the internment of Japanese and other Americans within the historic grounds, Seabiscuit's home.

SANTA ANITA MORNING Workout  The horses come on to the track before the sun rises. Familiar with the turf, they navigate the dark. The sound of their breathing is the only thing heard. In singles, in pairs, in triples, teams tear the turf up. Until the siren sounds, rider down...

SANTA ANITA Raceday  The bustle of racing begins with dawn. Punters come to Clockers for coffee, a racing program, a chat with anyone they believe has the inside information on a winning form. Fact is, when the dust settles, it was just a horserace. First one wins no guessing

THE ROYAL ASCOT People Watching  Royals from all cultures, diplomats and dignitaries include Sheikh's newest wives come to Ascot dressed to the 9's. But at the days end, when all gather to sing around the gazebo, class and culture meet in mirth, aching feet and snogs with strangers.

THE ROYAL ASCOT's GROUNDS  The Royal Ascot is undergoing a renovation in 2005. The mother of horseracing's history is blessed with the creme of the racing world's racing stock four legged and two.

YORK RACECOURSE  York is the only racecourse I have seen with two arrows at its entranceway pointing in opposite directions. One points to the course. The other points to the local Crematorium.

ST MORITZ WHITE TURF Horseracing On Snow  The adventure in racing is once a year in the Alps. Creme of racing's community travel to frolic in winter powder kicked up by horses hooves in the shadow of more traditional winter sports. It is a dog friendly town.

CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE Hunt Support For Countryside Alliance  The sound of the horn. The ta-ra of the hounds. The scarlet coated huntsmen tore down the field in what would become one of the last runs for the freedom to hunt with live foxes.

THE SCARTEEN HOUNDS BREAK THE BAN AND COME TO THE UK  The United Kingdom was rampant with protests for and against hunting. Under quiet of the night, Scarteen;s famous black and tan hounds from Ireland were brought in to the Thurlow Hunt Club. Unoticed, in a fashion...

THOROUGHBRED REHABILITATION ILPH March On No 10  The International League for the Protection of Horses marched on No 10 Downing Street to present a petition against the slaughter of race horses for delicacy meet. The ILPH enlisted the assistance of British soap opera actors including Anthony Head.

AINTREE The Grand National Hunt  There is racing and then there is the Grand National Hunt. Half of Ireland comes across to Liverpool, as the expression goes, to share in the Festival of beer, betting and beautiful women. The riders are not jockeys, they are cowboys of the wild west.

HILDON CUP POLO  It is a family affair, polo. Everyone there, at least for the day, is family, enjoying the Pims, toe tapping the divots and people gazing. The stars are four legged. The horses, although, the Brazilian players do make hearts go bump.

THE OLYMPIA INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW  Riders compete for trophies. Dogs duck and dive for their owners. A christmas theatrical enchants children of all ages. The star moment is Vince piercing a solid paper wall for Alan his Met rough-rider. Horses will do anything from love.

THE ROYAL WINDSOR HORSE SHOW  The Royal Windsor Horse show is held on and around the grounds of Windsor Castle, itself often serving as a backdrop to events in the Main Ring. Her Royal Highness and the Duke regale in sharing their love of the horse world along with other enthusiats.

THE PRINCESS ROYAL VISITS THE ILPH IN SNETTERTON  The Princess Royal, patron to the ILPH, visited to unveil a placque at the center. Andrew Parker Bowles, John Carrick were amongst dignitaries attending the event.

VIENNA'S LIPIZANNER STALLIONS COME TO THE CAPITOL ON THEIR 60th ANNIVERSARY RESCUE BY PATTON  60 years ago General Patton negotiated with the German army, a tactic within which they could rescue the 425 year old riding school, before the Russians attacked. General Stewart, present at the rescue, attended the performance, his 90th birthday.
